Legnica is a city I remember from my childhood, but returning here years later proved more exciting than I could have anticipated. We ended up at an abandoned hospital - a place I'd never heard of before, but which struck us from the threshold with its austere unease. The middle of a hot summer was left outside the door; inside, we were greeted by the chill of demolished rooms, the smell of peeling paint and dust lingering on broken glass.
Choosing a Safety Jacket in such an environment was natural, almost instinctive. The hospital corridors themselves imposed this narrative. Initially, as a photographer, I was overprotective - walking in bondage on uncertain, rubble-strewn ground requires extreme caution. However, it quickly became apparent that the model was doing just fine, and I struggled to keep up with her with the camera, trying to capture the dynamics of her movements in these claustrophobic spaces.
In one of the rooms we discovered something that resembled an altar of sorts. This scene - a figure in a kaftan standing with his back on a raised platform, the tension of waiting to turn and whispering: "someone is behind you" - took this session to a whole new level of experience. Urbex in a straitjacket in an abandoned hospital is not just about photography; it's about going deep into the fears and fascinations that Legnica has stored in its ruins.
